I have to share this story. I went to WDW the week of Sept 9. With all that occurred on Sept 11, here's what happened. Tropical Storm Gabrelle hit Florida on Sept 14, this was my last full day at the World. I decided to eat breakfast, at the last minute, at the Garden Grill in Epcot. Arriving before rope drop (7:25?), I was inside. After several minutes for them to set up I'm sitting at a table. Soon all four characters: Mickey, Pluto, Chip, and Dale are at my table basically spreading their magic. Although it was pouring outside, I had several rays of sunlight.
All the characters signed my book and had me laughing so hard I was crying. I had all four characters to myself until 8:05 when another family showed up.
I'll tell you what, these four really made my last day special by turning me into a six year old once more. The food was fantastic and so was the fun. Disney Magic, catch it! -- Bob Werner
while on our first trip to disney we decided to make our own magic moment for our four year old son. we secretly sent a postcard home for him from
his pal "mickey" thanking him for coming and visiting him and hoping to see him again soon. we got home before the postcard so when it came in the mail
he was so excited that it has become a permanent fixture on our fridge. -- Tim H.
I was in Epcot for my 12th birthday( I share it with my dad so that was a perfect time to go). I was in innoventions with him, and my mom was sitting outside talking with one of the cast members. We come out and the castmember walks up to me and says "Happy Birthday Greg". my mouth must have hit the floor. -- Greg
Last Christmas (2001) my family and I were taking the boat to the Disney Studios. It was night (we were heading over for Fantasmic) so it was a bit quiet, though the boat was full. All of a sudden, several kids behind us started singing "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Soon the whole boat joined in! We kept singing carols all the way around Cresent lake and until we reach the Studios. Disney Holiday pixie-dust! -- Jackie H.
It was October 31, 2000 - my 27th visit to the World. I have an "original" Maleficent costume from the animator himself. It was
left to me with the note that I try and wear it on Halloween for the children. The headpiece and full rubber mask is about 2.5
feet tall (the horns make it bigger) and the body of the costume is pure silk. It is a much better depiction of Maleficent and a better costume than the ones worn by the cast members.
Anyhow, the Asst. General Manager, Roger Ploum, at The Grand Floridian saw the costume and gave me a "bodyguard" because he
was afraid that I would be mobbed by kids when I walked around the park. And I was and it was great! But 2 things stick out in my mind.
When the villains parade came by and saw me standing on the sidelines, the float with the WDW Maleficent stopped right where
I stood. WDW Maleficent, as well as all the other villains (Hook, Jafar, Ursula) were all talking and pointing at me. WDW
Maleficent called out to me, "My sister. How well you look." I bowed and waved back and they continued on.
In keeping with Disney's style, I did not speak but I do have a sort of "evil" laugh which I used. But one boy, about 3 years
old, apparently saw me walking and did a full throttle run at me and hugged my knees, squeezing hard. He asked a lot of
questions, but I didn't answer. He said he had "looked and looked all over the park for me but he didn't see me until now."
He wanted my autograph and his picture taken with me. His mother came up and said she had never seen a "walking Maleficent" figure
around the park but was glad WDW had "wizened up". I whispered to her that I didn't work for WDW. She apologized profusely and
I whispered it was ok. I signed her son's autograph book "Born to be bad...Maleficent.", much to the chagrin of my bodyguard,
who later told me that the WDWD characters went to school to learn how and what to sign. Oops.
Anyhow it was GREAT FUN for me. When I return for Christmas I may bring the costume back for the Villains parade at MGM. -- Micky Mausse
On the first day of our vacation at WDW this year my 4 yo Dd was so excited that she was bouncing off the wall and not particularly watching
where she was going. To be expected, she fell and scraped her palm and knee. I cleaned her wounds and put Band-Aid "Advanced Healing" bandages on them then told her to be more careful. The next morning I was waken up by her excited voice telling me that she had a "Mickey Mouse Boo Boo". I looked at her palm, and sure enough, there was the classic Mickey head on her bandage. The "Advanced Healing" bandage worked by acting in place of a scab to seal in natural fluids, as the strip absorbs the skin's own moisture, a white gel cushion forms over the wound. Somehow, the resulting form was a white Mickey head on her palm, so instead of whining about her boo-boo all day, she was happily showing everyone the Mickey Mouse on her hand. -- Linda from CA
