Port Orleans Resort Riverside

Submitted By: Stacey Cain

Name Of Resort: Port Orleans Resort Riverside

Date Of Stay: October 6-14-2006

Type Of Resort: Disney Moderate

Rate Paid During Your Stay: Around $115.00 I forget exactly,we had a AP special

Room Sleeps: 4 and a child under 3

Please Rate the Following on a scale from 1-10 (10 being the best):

Theming: 10
Room Size: 8
Amenities: 8
Quality: 8
Cleanliness: 7
Transportation: 8
Recreation: 9
Value: 9

Over all rating: 8(I would have said 9 but we had issues with our mousekeeping the last half of the week)

Don't Miss: The horse and carriage ride, Bob the piano player and they have a huge arcade that my son loves!

The Mouse For Less Tip: Get the refillable cups. The short walk over the bridge was no big deal to us to get hot chocolate late at night after a chilly evening in the parks.

Room Location Suggestion: We were on the upper floor in the Magnolia Bend section and the grounds were absolutely beautiful and just a short walk from the pool and food area.

The Mouse For Less Tip: We got alot of use of our refillable mugs at this resort and both my son and friends daughter split meals like chicken fingers and fries.

Comments: Pictures of this resort sometimes don't do it justice. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, the theming there is just perfect in every way. Anyone that stays there will not be sorry its a great choice for a moderate!

Name Of Resort: Port Orleans Resort Riverside, Magnolia Mansions

Date Of Stay: Sept 28, 2006- Oct 7, 2006

Type Of Resort: Disney Moderate

Rate Paid During Your Stay: Rack Rate: Free Dining Promotion--love the dining program.

Room Sleeps: We stayed in alligator bayou that slept 5. My brother in law comes down when we go down there and stays a few days (he is a doctorial student at FSU). Room number 2513. (bottom floor, corner room)

Please Rate the Following on a scale from 1-10 (10 being the best):

Theming: 9
Room Size: 9 - Room was ok size wise we made it work--once B-In-L left we were fine--it was tight with him there though
Amenities: 8--quiet pools never had towels the entire time we were there.
Quality: 10
Cleanliness: Our room was always clean--however there were occasions that we weren't left sheets for the trundle when we needed them-so we had to call mousekeeping a couple of times for sheets. We did have towel animals on a couple of occasions. My favorite was a towel owl that held our toothbrushes--very handy!!!
Transportation: 9 - We rented a car but did use disney trans. on many occasions. We only had 1 horrific experience--we had 6:00 ressies at O'hana's and decided we would take the boat to DTD and then get on the Poly bus from there. OMG!! Wrong move!! We got to the boat at 5:00 as it was loading so no wait there. The boat ride was longer than I expected but we still had like 40 minutes to get from DTD to the Poly. Well it took FOREVER for a Poly bus to arrive at the bus stop at DTD. Once we got on the bus they made another additional stop on the otherside of DTD and the bus driver just waited there--no one was coming--everyone on the bus was like come on- -we probably waited there about 20 minutes. We were then off and I was like well, we may make it :) We then turned off to one of the waterparks and I was like--you have to be kidding me and when we arrived at the waterpark we picked up two CM's--no guests. Needless to say by the time we got to the Poly it was almost 6:30. They did still let us in--didn't seem to bother them that we were late, but we were in a bad mood which could be the reason why O'hana didn't meet our expectations--but that's another review. Anywho--our transportation experience directly from our resort to a park was excellent--minimal waits!!
Recreation: pool was great; resort had many different things to do--we didn't do them--but there was a wide selection.
Value: 10

Over all rating: 10++ We have booked again for this August/September--we wanted to stay at a different resort (just because I want to stay at them all eventually) but this is the only moderate that would fit all of us (brother in law is joining us for a couple of days again) and our budget won't allow us to stay at a Deluxe this time.

Don't Miss: Loved this resort. My husband liked the Riverside Mill breakfast choices. The girls (ages 6 and 4) loved the waterslide) We missed him last time but Bob at River Roost lounge is awesome--We are going to check him out this time!!

The Mouse For Less Tip: Get the refillable cups. The short walk over the bridge was no big deal to us to get hot chocolate late at night after a chilly evening in the parks.

Room Location Suggestion: Everyone says that building 14 is the most ideal place. As far as the map goes it looked like we were about as far from the main building as you could get (building 25) and the walk was not far at all. I inquired about a building closer upon check in and the guy said they were booked solid. But once I walked it (to get our refillable mugs) it wasn't bad at all. My girls and I walked to the main building every morning and it may have taken about 5 minutes if that. Looking back on it, I really liked our location. We were very close to the laundry, one of the quiet pools, our parking lot and a bus stop. Since we were tucked in the back of the property it was very quiet-not much traffic. We also didn't pay extra for a preferred view and our view was great. All of the landscaping was beautiful and the resort had tons of foilage. I don't think that you could get a "bad" view. I wouldn't pay for the preferred view!!!

The Mouse For Less Tip: Not really--we really enjoyed it. Also, one night after a late night at MNSSHP, we came back in about 12:00 and my daughter had developed a nasty cough. I went to the front desk and asked about the closest 24 hour drug store. She started to give me directions and then said--why don't we go open the general store and see if we have anything in there that will work. I said FANTASTIC! I went in there and they had vicks and Pediatric robitussin and the prices were very comparable to walgreens or eckerd!! In 30 minutes she was fast asleep. Also in their general store they had entenmenn's donuts and cinnamon rolls, boxes of cereal and gallons of milk. Each counted as a snack credit so for 4 snack credits we had breakfast for the week!!!

Comments: We loved it!!!!! No complaints at all!!
