Who: Cooper Family of 5 me, DH, DD15, DD11, DS 6, + my Mom

Where: Boma -- Animal Kingdom Lodge

When: Wednesday 9/17/08

What: Dinner Buffet.

Approximate Price of Entrees: We had the free dining plan, we paid 18% tip $26.63.

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 3
Service: 5
Atmosphere: 5
Okay for Children: Yes, just open space with tables. African theming.
Okay for Couples: Yes
Be Sure to Try: the prime rib was soooo good!

General tips: We had reservations for 6:15 and were seated at 5:55. This place was VERY busy.

Extra Comment: There was not much in the way of salad. The food is very different. Spicy. I tried a little sample of everything. But I really liked the prime rib the best. For dessert, don't miss the mini cheesecakes that have I think pineapple in them. Very good!

Who: Shaw Family - 3 adults, 2 kids

Where: Boma -- Animal Kingdom Lodge

When: Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008

What: Dinner Buffet. There are a lot of exotic food choices. Try a little of everything because you will be surprised. There is also a kid's buffet station with more common foods (i.e., mac and cheese). Some of the different choices include watermelon rind salad (sounds weird, but it's very good), crusted prime rib, coconut curry seafood stew (really tasty and one of my favorites), different varieties of hummus and lavosh, and other salads. Desserts include cassava cake, zebra domes, and cookies and brownies for the kids.

Approximate Price of Entrees: Total was approx. $120...we were on DDP, so we only paid the tip.

Okay for Children: Yes
Okay for Couples: Yes
Be Sure to Try: Try a little of everything. I try something new each time I go and am usually pleasantly surprised. The zebra domes are delicious.

General tips: Definitely make sure you have an ADR because this place gets very crowded. We went at 5 and the buffet line gets very backed up. There is only one. After I went through the first time, I skipped the meats (which is where most of the line is) and just went to the other stations without having to wait in the long line.

TheMouseForLess tips: Reasonable as part of the DDP, a lot of interesting food choices that you wouldn't normally get to eat. The atmosphere is great. Be sure to visit the animals on property before or after your meal. The hotel is a very short bus ride from Animal Kingdom.

Who: The Balis's

Where: Boma

When: 06-19-08

What: Buffet, with chef carved steak

Approximate Price of Entrees: $ 12.99 for kids, $25.99 for adult

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 5
Service: 4
Atmosphere:
Okay for Children: Yes
Okay for Couples: "Yes", but very loud and busy
Be Sure to Try: The variety of african flair here is great, the Hummus and soups are a must. Not much for american adult foods, just for kids. However if your not into the curry & couscous you may not appreciate the variety and flavers. We including my 8 year old loved trying it all. If staying at animal kingdom lodge you can take a tour of the Boma and jiko (?) and they give out plenty of samples, but they do omit the kitchens, but you can meet thea chef or two.

General tips: Like most suggestions get reservation, esp. if you need a specific time.

TheMouseForLess tips: All you can drink included.

Extra Comments: Although the dishes are very different they do offer a kids fare, and kid friendly deserts. The BOMA sign behind the desk makes for a cute picture.

Who: Dunn Family (Jason - 32, Leslie Ann - 37, Charles - 4 and Maddie - 2)

Where: BOMA (AKL)

When: Friday - 3/10/06

What: Brunch

Approximate Price of Entrees: $45

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 5+++
Service: 5++
Atmosphere: 5!!!
Okay for Children: Absolutely!
Okay for Couples: Absolutely!
Be Sure to Try: Too many things to mention. Frunch (juice drink), made-to-order omelettes, cinnamon challah french toast, pecan sticky buns, corned beef hash stuff, roast ham, breads, sausage...

General tips: They take DDE card. We have always been able to get ressies any time we wanted, and we have always been able to walk up and be seated. This place is almost never packed or full - yet the brunch is the best on property. This is the best kept eating secret - we eat here EVERY time and we are NEVER disappointed. I bring empty sippy cups and fill them with frunch from the table. Also, this place serves REAL coffee, not nescafe. The server will give you a to-go cup.
We eat here every time as we are leaving the World - everyone fills up before we pile in the car and do the 8-9 hour drive back to Atlanta. The kids are stuffed, so they go to sleep within 30 minutes of our leaving, and if we're lucky they'll sleep like 3 hours.

TheMouseForLess tips: Use DDE card

Extra Comments: If you haven't eaten here, try it. This is the best brunch on property.

Who: Cinderella(23),Prince Charming(23), DDad (57),DMom(56)

Approximate Price of Entrees: Total~$25.99/each ($130 or so)

Okay for Children: Yes-they had a nice kids buffet
Okay for Couples: Yes!
Be Sure to Try: Oh, just try everything! We had so much fun trying all the different foods. I am a fairly picky eater but I found MORE than enough to eat.

General tips: Make a ADR. We had one and were seated after about 10 minutes but they were telling people over 1 1Ú2 hour wait.

TheMouseForLess tips: It wasn't a cheap meal by any means but it was MORE than worth every penny.

Extra Comments: I snuck down to the check in desk earlier in the day and informed them we were celebrating my parents 25th wedding anniversary. When we checked in, the girl that sat us down (who was the sweetest person!) presented my parents with a card with congrats all in their own native languages.Of course, my mom started crying and I wasn't far behind! After we finished eating, my parents were presented with a special dessert! It was so special! We will never forget our night here!

Who: Andersons, Mic and Jeff

Where: Boma at AKL

When: October, 2005

What: dinner

Approximate Price of Entrees: $24.99 each plus beverages for the buffet

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 5
Service: 5
Atmosphere: 5
Okay for Children: yes, there is one station at the buffet with kid friendly food
Okay for Couples: yes
Be Sure to Try: my absolute favorite here is the Chicken Corn Chowder. Also we both tried different dipping sauces with our meat. We tried a wine sampler and got to try some different wines too. (I really was gonna try Frunch this time)

General tips: you definately want an ADR here, and if you are celebrating anything special let them know. We were celebrating the end of chemo and they brought out a special treat for us at the end

TheMouseForLess tips: make sure and bring your appetite as there is so much you will want to try!

Extra Comments: If you arrive early have a drink (they have some fun fruity connoctions) and visit on the couches in Victoria Falls overlooking Boma, or explore the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Who: The Hicks FamilyÑMe, DH, DD 5

Where: Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge

When: August 17, 2005

What: Dinner

Approximate Price of Entrees: $65.00 for buffet meal of 2 adults 1 child. Plus about $20.00 for 2 drinks.

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 5+
Service: 5
Atmosphere: 5
Okay for Children: Yes. There are so many choices, especially if your child is adventuresome.
Okay for Couples: Yes. There are some private locations in the restaurant for privacy.
Be Sure to Try: EVERYTHING! The Coconut Curry Soup was my favorite soup. My daughter loved the flat bread, my "meat and potato" husband loved all the varieties of meat. The Zebra Domes and other desserts were terrific. We just tasted a little of everything and then went back for what we liked.

General tips: We arrived early and looked around the hotel for a while. Very nice.

TheMouseForLess tips: I can't say enough about the Dining Plan. We are a family that prefers sitting to eat, rather then eating on the run. The Dining Plan is the only way to go in this case!

Extra Comments: Brahim was a terrific waiter. Gave us easy to follow directions as to how the buffet was arranged. He also discussed his native country. He was very nice and attentive, even though it was buffet.

Atmosphere: 5
Okay for Children: yes
Okay for Couples: yes
Be Sure to Try: Everything!! The food is great!! The salads are fantastic! The soups out of this world!! The meat is seasoned just right and I don't like spicy!!

General tips: It has gotten VERY busy lately so make sure you have ADR's or you will wait forever.

TheMouseForLess tips: For the amount of food you're getting the price is great. Use your DDE card.

Extra Comments: We love this place and must go at least once each trip. Rememeber that the menu does change nightly. Try everything there is, you may be surprised at what you like. The kids buffet is fine for the kids and adults too.
If you have a special occasion, let them know. They brought out a wooden board filled with delicious cookies that weren't offered in the buffet for my last visit.
Make sure to take a tour of the hotel and all the savanah's. It's worth the trip just for that!!

Who: The Waite Family Ð Mary and Bob

Where: Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge

When: May 24, 2005

What: Two Adult Buffets and Drinks

Approximate Price of Entrees: Each Adult Buffet was $24.99; One Cape Algulhas Drink (Absolut Citron, Peach Schnapps, Blue Curacao, Sour Mix and Sprite) - $8.00; and One Glass of Brampton Cabernet Wine - $7.75. The price before trip would have been $70. But with the Disney Dining Experience card, we were able to save $14.00.

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 5

Atmosphere: 5
Okay for Children: Yes
Okay for Couples: Yes
Be Sure to Try: Everything. Take a small sample and then go back and have more of your favorites. The soups are incredible.

General tips: Make sure you have an Advance Dining Reservation as even at 9:00 at night, the host/hostess were turning guests away.

TheMouseForLess tips: If you have a DDE card Ð use it. Our card entitled us to a discount of $14.

Extra Comments: There is a Culinary Tour which is held daily - either at 3:45 or 4:00. The first half of the Tour is at JikoÕs and when then you are escorted over to Boma where you will meet with one of the Boma Chefs. The Chef should go through each station and tell you what each dish will be for that evening and what the ingredients are, etc. It is nice knowing what is in a particular dish or how it is prepared ahead of time.

Bob mentioned to our server that the coffee was really good and not at all like the coffee that is served at Mara (which is probably Nescafe). Our server let us know that it was not the same kind of coffee Ð that it was a special blend for Boma. He also told us that all it seems to take is for one guest to complain about the Nescafe coffee and it is replaced within a week with something else. So if more guests complain about the Nescafe coffee, then maybe Disney will replace it with something else.
