TheMouseForLess Restaurant Reviews

Hollywood and Vine sign

Hollywood and Vine, MGM

Attention The Mouse For Less Readers: We are still looking for restaurant reviews. Please help us by filling out the restaurant review form. We appreciate all reviews! Please send any pictures of restaurants, menus or food that you would like to share with other Disney lovers to menu@themouseforless.com.

Who: Riconda family

Where: Play n' Dine @ Hollywood and Vine

When: 7/21/2008

What: We went for lunch. We had many items from the buffet and the kids enjoyed the desert area where they made their own sundaes

Approximate price of entrees: $115.21 plus 17.79 for tip for 3 adults and 1 child

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 4
Service: 5
Atmosphere: 4
Okay for Children: Yes the characters came around and played around with the kids alittle before moving on. They came back to visit everyone frequently.
Okay for Couples: Yes, for couples who like to see the characters, the food was good and a large selection.
Be Sure to Try: All.

TheMouseForLess tips: Be prepared to wait as it gets packed for the character greetings

Extra Comments: Extremely friendly cms and one came by to make sure all the characters had visited us.

Who: The Snyders - Darl & Teena, Joe (16), Jennie (12)

Where: Hollywood & Vine - MGM

When: July 5, 2008

What: Dinner Buffet as part of the Fantasmic Package

Approximate price of entrees: a new record for our family - 4 "adults" for a total of $138!

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: overall a 3.5 to 4
Service: 5 - the service was terrific
Atmosphere: wow - noisy - 3 (Air conditioning redeems it)
Okay for Children: Ideal for kids! My teenager ate his weight in prime rib, my tweenie loved the mac & cheese. A big variety for even the pickiest of eaters.
Okay for Couples: Only if you are NOT seeking a quiet intimate setting.
Be Sure to Try: Luv-luv-luv the salad with watercress, pears, blue cheese, and citrus--I crave it now. Also the corn spoonbread was quite tasty. The prime rib is OK as long as you don't like your meat anything rarer than medium-well.

General tips: This is the "cheapest" in the Fantasmic dinner package restaurants, and price was our deciding factor. I shudder to think what our tab would have been at the other restaurants in the package.

TheMouseForLess tips: Looking back, I would have to say that if you are looking to save money, the Fantasmic package will sock you. You're better off picking up food at the Toluca Legs Turkey booth and then eating it while you wait an hour in line for the show.

Extra Comments: We liked the restaurant, the food, the service, but the tab--(did I say "ouch" already?) We just accepted that if you're at Disney, you pay for everything, and you pay dearly. It's not every day that you get to do this (at least not if you are from Ohio).

Hollywood & Vine...Little Eisten's and Jo Jo Circus (1 table service)
Amie - 5/15/08

Lots of energy fun for the kiddies....very bright and cheerful and fun. Really enjoy this one...also a buffet with a variety of food. Alot of choice....very fun and another family favorite.

Who: The Dunns (me - 38, DH - 34, DS - 6, DD - 4, Nana - 66, Gramps - 67

Where: Hollywood & Vine - MGM

When: Wednesday Dinner

What: Dinner Buffet

Approximate $28 - although we were on the DDP

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 5
Service: 5
Atmosphere: 4
Okay for Children: Yes, but it is better for breakfast/lunch when they have the Einsteins characters
Okay for Couples: Sure
Be Sure to Try: My husband loved the SALADS. He said H&V had the best/highest quality salads of any buffet we visited in this trip. They had a watercress salad, Arugula salad, Ceasar salad, etc. Also the prime rib was great.

General tips: I don't know what the deal is, but this place told us that they were totally booked for the night. My dad slipped the host a $20 if he would seat us within a half hour - and the host sat us in 15 minutes!!! We went in and the place was HALF EMPTY. Folks - this was the night before Thanksgiving, the park was totally packed and we could not get seated at Prime Time, Sci Fi, or Melrose's - so we had no choice. My husband was elated with the meal and said it was his most favorite meal all week (even more than Le Cellier!) We couldn't believe the cast member took the "tip" to seat us, but hey - we were a party of 6 hungry people and we were at MGM and our ADRs were at Epcot, so we had to take extreme measures.

TheMouseForLess tips: Good place to use a table service on the DDP, especially with the new plan in 2008.

Extra Comments: They serve alcohol here.

Who: Lemmon Family

Where: HollyWood & Vine

When: October 31, 2005

What: Dinner Buffet

Approximate Price of Entrees: $23.00

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 5
Service: 3
Atmosphere: 5
Okay for Children: Yes
Okay for Couples: Yes
Be Sure to Try: Sweet Potatoes

General tips: Be sure to get ressies for the Fantasmic package (it doesn't cost anything but it gets you Priority Seating at the Fantasmic show)

TheMouseForLess tips: If you are not a big eater or don't see anything you like in the adult buffet then you can always get from the kids cart

Extra Comments: This resataurant is our favorite in MGM. The price is perfect for a large group and the atmosphere is good no matter what the age group.

Who: Jen F. in CA

Where: Hollywood and Vine

When: July 2003

What: Dinner buffet; included salmon, chicken, turkey, mashed potatoes, meatballs, mac and cheese, hot-dogs, salad, cakes, ice cream (I am sure I can't remember it all!)

Approximate Price of Entrees: adults $19.99, children $9.99, includes soft drinks and dessert; tax and tip not included

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 5
Service: 4 (it was hard to get drink refills)
Atmosphere:
Okay for Children: yes, there is even a children's buffet area
Okay for Couples: yes, but not romantic or quiet
Be Sure to Try: salmon was great, we took the salad and put salmon on it and made salmon salads! I also took a hot-dog bun and meatballs off the kids buffet and made a meatball sandwich. Turkey and mashed potatoes wonderful also.

General tips: We made a PS for the Fantasmic package. I think this made the meal a great deal, we saved at least an hour waiting in line and got to relax, have some ice tea and eat great food instead of standing in line.

Dollarless tips: Fantasmic package is at no extra charge so if you are going to eat here for dinner, make sure you ask for the Fantasmic package.

Extra Comments: We all really liked the food here. The food was all hot and replenished frequently. We arrived about 10 minutes before our PS time and waited in line about 10 minutes to reach the check in point. Our PS was for 6:10PM and we waited about 5 minutes after check-in to be seated.
