Since we had 2 days left on our Play4 passes, we decided to go to AK today. We had not been there before. We left home about 5:30am
and would have been to the park before opening time, but there was some kind of race going on, and Osceola Parkway was closed at one
point for about 15-20 min. to let runners go by.
First we went to the Safari ride which had about a 5 minute line. We saw lots of animals, and found it very enjoyable. I personally
think they could leave out the fake storyline about the poachers. Then we went over to Kali River Rapids. No line hardly there,
either. It was fun, but did we get soaked! I should have worn nylon shorts, instead of denim, because they never did get completely dry
all day. We walked through the Asian animal exploration area (forgot the name), and enjoyed it. Then we found a place to sit and relax by
the french fry/chicken hut area. It wasn't quite 10am yet, but I was hungry, and wanted to try the chicken satay, so we waited 'til they
opened. The chicken was tasty, and we dipped some fries in the extra peanut sauce...yum. I think next we went to the Tree of Life area
and saw "It's Tough to Be a Bug" without much of a wait. A cute show, and all the carvings on the tree are fun to look at, too.
Then we went to DinoLand, saw the replica of "Sue", and rode the Dinosaur ride. It was pretty good- I don't like really bumpy rides,
but I didn't mind it. Not having kids with us, we skipped the Boneyard. We walked into "Tarzan Rocks" a little after it started,
but there weren't very good places to sit, and the air was stifling, so we left. We went on to Camp MinnieMickey, and sat down for the
Lion King show which started about 10 minutes later. It was very spectacular. My husband really loved it. I did too, but I don't
like the circus-like acrobatic parts in the show.
We got some cold drinks, and walked back to Africa because we wanted to go on the Safari again. We were going to get FastPasses,
but the wait was just 5 minutes (in reality we walked right on). Even though, it was early afternoon, we found that we still saw lots
of animals. We then went on the Pangani Exploration trail, and were not too impressed except for the gorillas. Some of the babies were
playing in the trees and were fun to watch. We took the train to the Conservation Station (and saw a white rhino with her baby while on
the train), but didn't spend much time there.
It was close to 3pm and we were really hungry again, so we decided to eat at the Rainforest Cafe. We had a really good and leisurely
meal there, and were finished by 4pm. We walked to the car (it was parked very close to the entrance) and went to Downtown Disney for a
little while, then headed back home.
It was a very pleasant day. The weather was great- the humidity was significantly lower than it has been, and we felt like there was
so much less concrete there than at the other parks, that it was not nearly as hot.
