I just got back from my first trip to WDW last night and it was wonderful! I want to thank everyone on this list for all the wonderful advice. I've learned so much over the past few months that when we arrived I felt like I had already been there many times. It was just my sister and I for this trip and while I have always been a huge Disney nut, she had the"it's just a theme park" mentality before we left and wasn't interested in reading up. It was funny to see her face when she realized just how vast the whole complex is and when I knew just what to do all the time she was amazed at my knowledge lol.
I'm still very excited about our trip so bear with me if my thoughts are rambling. We arrived Saturday morning and were picked up by Tiffany and from then on everything was very smooth and easy. I don't know if we were just lucky or what but we never encountered ANY bad moments. We got to ASmu around noon and there was no line to check-in. Our room was ready and we were checked in 5 minutes later (awesome!). I had requested Jazz but we got Country instead. I thought it would be a really long walk but it wasn't bad and it was quiet back there. And besides, I enjoyed saying.......hey that's a BIG boot......every time we walked by . Those room are very small like everyone said but it was just right for 2 adults. I told my sister about the turbo toilets and she thought I was exaggerating until she heard it for herself through the walls......tinkle tinkle whhooooosh.
We deposited our stuff and headed for the bus stop. This is where I have to say that I LOVED the bus system. I thought it would be a pain but it was great. We never waited more than 10 minutes and when we saw how far apart everything is and how far parking is from the front gates, we were very happy to be shuttled around with no worries. The busses were clean and efficient and easy to find.
We headed for Epcot since I knew MK would be crazy on a Saturday. We only had 7 hours at this point so we rode Spaceship Earth (walked right on) and then went straight back to the World Showcase. We really wanted to see all the countries and figured we could do Future World on another trip. I loved WS! My favorite was UK. The British Invasion was playing and Tigger was there hamming it up. I could have stayed in that section all day. My sister loved Morocco. It did really feel like you were actually there for a moment. I thought TOD parade was great because it was different. I really liked the music but the best part was watching the puppets interacting with the children. It was so touching. Then we waited too long to get a good spot for Illuminations (I'll start looking earlier next time) so we couldn't see the globe very well. But I got the gist of it and thought it was very moving and the music was great again. I'm a sucker for emotional music. I cry every time.....hehehe. I can't wait to see it again from a better view point.
Sunday we went to MK and had breakfast at Tony's. It was only half full and the characters spent a lot of time with everyone. We had a blast! I think Tigger squeezed my sister's butt when she hugged him and we thought that was hysterical. Anyway, to make a long day short, we managed to get in almost every attraction. We even saw the Tiki birds, which I thought would be boring but we ended up loving it. My favorite was Splash Mountain. I loved the detail and all the small drops beforehand. My sister's was Peter Pan's Flight, only because she loves Tinkerbell so much. The Haunted Mansion was great too. Well heck, I loved them all! The only thing that made me almost doze off was the Country Bears. It was nice and cool in there though.Fastpass is FABULOUS! We breezed by a mile long stretch of people and walked right on Space Mountain! We had dinner at Columbia Harbor House and it was nice and quiet and relaxing in there just like everyone said. Then we staked out a curbside seat for SpectroMagic. I was beyond ecstatic when I found out it would be going the day we were there! My sister didn't get why I was so excited about it and so insistent upon finding a good spot. But she understood after we saw it ;-) It was awesome and we were both crying by the time we saw Cinderella. Then we went and got ice cream at the main street place and stood outside to watch the fireworks. We were standing in the middle of main street, right in front of the castle licking our ice cream cones, the fireworks started and I look over and a man has his little boy on his shoulders next to me with an awestruck look on his face. All I could think of was, this is just like the commercial and life doesn't get any better than this. We lingered on main street and took in all in before wandering to the bus stop, hot, sticky, tired, very dirty and very happy. I think that Sunday was one of the best days of my life.
Monday we went to the bus stop, hopped on the first bus that came got off and hopped right on another bus to the Polynesian. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I think we got very lucky. We had breakfast at Ohana's and that was great fun too. We took the monorail around to all 3 monorail resorts and it was kind of like Goldilocks and the 3 bears. We thought the Grand Floridian was beautiful but too stuffy and formal for out taste. The contemporary was fascinating but too cold and sterile. But the Polynesian was juuuuust right. It was warm and personable and I could have been happy staying there all day. Loved the volcano pool too!
Then sadly, we had to go home. It was a short trip but it was enough to infect my sister with the Disney bug . It was a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go back and I don't think I will ever stay off-site. I loved all the little Disney touches too much.I missed my wake-up call this morning......sigh. OK I've said enough. If you've read this far you must be a saint! Thanks again for the all the advice given on this list that helped make my first trip truly magical!
