The Boyer's - January 2003

We arrived home today at 1015am. We flew AirTran and since there was some discussion of AirTran before we left, I'll say that we had no problems with our flights at all. The flight to Orlando left on time and arrived on time. The flight home left on time and arrived 30 minutes early!

It was really great to meet with Maggie, Clive, Deb, Rick, Kayla, Annette, Joe, Kyle, Bianca, Christie and friends on New years day. Watching the MK fireworks from the beach at the Poly was a new experience for us-thanks, Bianca! I really like having faces to go with names.

This trip was the coldest weather I've ever experienced in FL! It was in the 30s and 40s in the mornings with highs ranging from mid-50s to mid-60s most of the time we were there. I always had a fleece or sweatshirt on. I was really thankful that, though cold, it was always sunny. The only rain we had was Dec 31 when we arrived-it was a deluge!

Parks were pretty crowded the first few days we were there. There was a line for Pirates-we initially got in line but then decided to leave. A lady behind me asked how long a wait I thought it would be. My estimate was 30 minutes. "Oh, that's not bad!" she exclaimed. I thought, "It is when you are used to walking right on!" By the end of our stay the parks were all pretty empty. We walked on to Splash Mtn one day! Unfortunately, no sooner had the ride started, then it stopped because someone had a seizure! Everybody was escorted out of their boats and off the ride.

On Thurs. the 10th we walked in to the Castle at 600pm just to ask if we could eat there (We did not have PS). They sent us right up and we saw the fireworks from inside CRT! Doug (who is 19) had not eaten in the Castle for years. The last time he ate there, they were serving letter-shaped chicken nuggets to kids. This time he had the pork chop; I had salmon, and Mike had prime rib. The food is good, but overpriced, I think. You really pay for the atmosphere there ( and for the experience of being called "my lady"!)

Doug and I enjoyed Dole Whip 3 times-nothing beats it!

Doug had his hair cut in the MK barber shop-she put red gel in his hair (and glitter before he could say no!) and drew a Mickey head in orange gel on the back of his head. He's still plotting revenge on me for convincing him it would be good to get his hair cut there!

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights was awesome! We are great lovers of Christmas lights, so we were in heaven. Doug had fun trying to find the hidden Mickeys and Minnie. The snow was an interesting effect, but nothing beats the real thing.

Last, but not least, hooray for the return of Figment!!!! Journey into Imagination is much improved with his return. I still think fondly of the original, but this is fun, too.

As fond as I am of WDW, it is good to be home. Next trip is probably in March when our dtr's high school band/senior trip takes place. We are hoping to take our grandson then, too. He'll be 2 on March 30, so he'll be great fun. We were already making note this trip of things he'll probably love.
