Day 1 - 1/25/2003
We left later than we had planned (what else is new?) and after getting about 2 miles from home we realized we'd forgotten the stroller. Our little one LOVES her stroller, so we turned around, got the stroller and then tried to get on the road once again. We finally got on the interstate around 5:30 a.m.
After a long, uneventful drive down (thank goodness) and right about the time we were ready to put both children out on the side of the road - we pulled in to the All Star Music about 1:30 p.m. I had been really worried about the temperature since the freak cold snap had hit the south just days prior to our trip, I had packed - well, pretty much our entire wardrobes. (Don't get excited...it still didn't amount to much LOL) A side note - the last place we had stopped and gotten out of the car was in Lake City, FL and it was SO COLD!!! Well, when I got out of the car to see if our room was maybe possibly ready (it was) I was very surprised to see that Michael Eisner must have entered into a contract with God - as it was very pleasant outside. I was very comfortable in just a long sleeve shirt. (I sure hope this contract is still valid in September when we go again so it won't be so darn hot!)
Anyway, since we had not sprung for the extra $$ this trip for the preferred building, I had requested to be as close as possible to the food court/bus stops and was accommodated with the Jazz building. (The next building over from the preferred building) AND our room was ready now. Woo hoo! At this point Maya has already started about wanting to go swimming (and there were a few people in the pool) but I just didn't have the nerve. I know the pool is heated - but my tushy wouldn't have been upon exiting the pool and I had not thought to bring big fluffy warm bathrobes or anything like that. So, we traveled on to our room with the luggage cart in tow while hubby drove around to our building to meet us.
We open our door ceremoniously - loaded down with luggage while dd Kyra runs in shouting "My Mickey home!!!" I unwisely proceed to unpack everything, stow the luggage under the bed (for those that were wondering if you could) plug in our noise maker (for those that are worried about the noise levels - we always travel with our girls' noise maker and listen to "rain" while we sleep. We've never heard a sound in our room.) Then I decide after the long trip all I want is to take a shower and EAT. So dh takes the kids to the playground to let
them burn off some energy while I gather my stuff for a shower. When I go in the bathroom and lift the toilet lid...well, let's just say someone else (prior to my family's arrival) had left a surprise in there for us. YUCK!!!!!!!!!! Then I started inspecting the room further...the mirrors were dirty, the sink still had toothpaste stains, the tub was full of hair, there was ketchup on the wall next to the table. I pulled back the sheets (yes, the beds were perfectly made) and there was hair on the sheets. Okay...so I go into my polite freak out mode now. I call housekeeping and ask for a supervisor who rushes down to our room and checks it out. He freaks out and then tells me to pack my stuff
up he's moving us. So I call Hector and the kids in to help and we pack up.
Well, finally the supervisor himself comes by with a luggage cart, loads us up and moves us over to the preferred building. LOL. After 4 trips to the All Star Music we have stayed in the same exact building all 4 trips. Anyway, he was so nice and we were just a few doors down from our room last September. Okay...so we unpack again. I get my shower at LAST! Then we all head for the food court for a big greasy cheesesteak and root beer. Okay...so I'm the only one who had the cheesesteak and root beer...it's how I keep my girlish figure you know. (wink wink)
After dinner I head down to Maestro Mickey's to check out the merchandise sans kids while dh and the girls finish watching the cartoon they were watching on the big tv in the dining area. We are all getting pretty sleepy at this point. Part of me wanted to not waste one minute of the trip and I wanted to go on over to Epcot for lluminations...but the smarter part of me took over and insisted we turn in early since we have PS for the Princess breakfast in Norway at 9am - and we're tired already from the drive.
I bathe the kids and we all snuggle in for a night of restful sleep. It's kind of funny, we have this tradition that started on our first trip as a family here. When Kyra was a baby her daddy was the only person that could get her to sleep in a big bed. For some reason when I'd try to get her to settle down in my bed she thought it was playtime. So she woke up one night in the pack -n- play in our room crying - and Hector got her to sleep in the bed with him while I moved over to Maya's bed. So now, every time we stay in a hotel (anywhere) Kyra thinks that means she gets to snuggle next to daddy. So part of the fun for me was when I got to snuggle in next to my little birthday girl (Maya) and smell her and cuddle her all night like she was still my little baby. (Kyra STILL won't snuggle with me in bed - she tickles me and laughs and climbs all over me) Little weirdo.
High points: it isn't cold, the great customer service regarding the dirty
room, snuggling with my birthday girl.
Low points: the yucky room, adjusting to the ASM bed. (I've had back surgery and sleeping on different beds takes a couple of days to get used to - can cause some aches/pains)
Tomorrow: PSBkfst in Norway, Epcot, lots of birthday attention for Maya, Kyra starts lying about her age, our Magic Kingdom marathon begins.
