My dd and I spent the Friday before Mothers day and Mother's day and Tuesday at WDW. Here's what our trip looked like:
Friday: arrived around 1pm at Epcot. Admired the beautiful topiaries at the main entrance...rarely do we enter this way as we are usually staying
at our DVC at BCV's but this time we are offsite at a friends house in Oviedo. It throws our equilibrium off to begin from this end but...we
pass on Spaceship Earth as it is overcrowded and we know we can "walk on" at some point later. We are hungry and dd wants to eat in the electric
umbrella. Food is just okay..lines are long with school groups.
Probably not the best choice but she was hungry. We head towards The Land and take the boat ride through the greenhouse. Then I head over to
JIYI and it's closed :-( . We make our way to World Showcase past the wonderful smell of roasted almonds one of my favs. Our first stop is
Mexico where we tour the shops and take the little boat ride through the "mini small world" type attraction. We eye the menu on the way out..no
meatless options and no burritos..dd is sad. We check outside and notice there is a burrito on the menu with meat but we are pretty sure we can
get it meatless...we decide to hold off until dinner...as right now I'm thinking KRINGLA in Norway. Much to my surprise the bakery is
closed...Forever? I ask, "no just for a few weeks" I'm assured and hopeful. We travel along world showcase in glorious weather, not too hot
and not chilly...just right. In Germany a hot pretzel calls my name and I share one with dd. We check out the hummel artist and the beautifully
crafted dolls. Nothing we hadn't seen before but non the less impressive. My german MIL will be with us at the end of the month and we
will pick out her genuine German costume for my dd's american girl doll. That will be fun. Before we head toward Italy, I get a small piece of
chocolate bark YUM! As we approach Italy, my dd comments on how she remembers seeing the building on her recent trip to Italy with her class
in school. She loved Italy but really wanted to see the Original Alfredos and wasn't able to. I comment to my daughter that we are
actually "strolling" and taking our time...very different from commando style...how very nice and relaxing. In front of France there is a man
stacking chairs on top of each other end to end. We watch with amazement as he climbs higher and higher. We also watch nearby tourists with yummy
ice cream cones and decide we must have one! THERE..we have eaten our way around world showcase and enjoyed every minute - HA! Unfortunately we
must leave as we told our host and hostess that we would be there around 7:30 TIMES UP for now.
Sunday: Mother's Day
And what a beauty it turns out to be! We start in Animal Kingdom at the safari. It's one of my favorites out of all the park attractions. We
see many, many animals out and about. A little excitement as a sort of semi stampede and a zebra that doesn't know he shouldn't pick a fight
with a Rhino, LOL! Before we leave the park, we do the forest trail and admire the gorillas and laugh at the little TImons. We are headed for
MGM, first stop RocknRollercoaster. It's broken so we get a fastpass and go to play Millionaire. I get on the board but not in the hot seat :-( Time to
ride RnR. Then it's time for lunch so we eat at Rosies Cafe which has a veggie burger option for dd. We stroll through the gift shops and treat
ourselves to a carmel apple snack while waiting for Beauty and the Beast to begin. Then we head over to Backlot Tour and end with Voyage of the
Little Mermaid which is always excellent...we hoped there was a better Mermaid this time and there was. Next stop Beach Club. As we pull in to
park we are welcomed home as I flash my DVC card. My favorite place in all the world is here on a rocker on the porch. I could sit and people
watch for quite some time. Let everything pass me by and just rock and relax. We had vouchers for Beaches and Cream and made out really well. I
had a prime rib sub w side of fruit (10.99) and a creamsicle beverage 3.49 and for dessert the Mud Slide 7.99. Obviously it was quite a deal
but if I did it again I would share the meal...it was really too much for one person. I knew tip was included but at 15% so I left enough to make
it 20% of the bill. He explained that the frozen drink was included because the new vouchers failed to list the exclusions...cool! Now there
was just enough time to walk over to EPCOT and get a great spot for Illuminations. It was terrific as usual. Time to say goodnight!
Tuesday:
We are planning to spend the day in MK. Up Main St we go, I love Main St. early in the am!
We round the corner to Space Mt. and walk on. Buzz is next and then we ignore convention and decide we NEED a mickey ice cream. Walking round
past Fantasy Land we notice how long the line for Pooh is and decide we can ride another time...as Philharmagic is waiting.
What a delight the show is. The line for Peter Pan wraps around the building and we decide to skip Haunted Mansion and Presidents, neither of
which my dd cares for much. Splash Mt is closed until noon but Big Thunder Mt. is calling. We have a quick wait and a great ride. Walk
through FrontierLand into AdventureLand. Pirates has made quite a comeback since the movie and although the ride line is too long for us we
take a trip through the gift shop and wind up with antenna toppers and dd buys a shirt that says "dead men tell no tales". We take on the Tiki
Birds and decide to go to the front of the park and ride the train around. As we disembark from the train we decide Tony's is sounding good
for lunch plus I have a DVC discount there. We order: Ravioli's for her and a meatball sub for me. DD is very dissappointed that they don't
serve bread and dip during the lunch hours. Dessert is to be found at the corner ice cream store...child size cones with the chocolate ears
YUMMY. We take the monorail back to TTC, say good bye to the parks for this trip...happy in the knowledge that we will return in just TWO weeks.
counting down again but this time we get to stay in BCV in a 2 bedroom for 6 days. We haven't had a vacation that lasted 6 days in quite
sometime. I can't wait.
