Day Trip 12/14 MK, MGM, PI, Boardwalk, & hotels
Me, Maureen - 40 something, WDW frequent visitor
I had been wanting to get over to see the decorations, and Osbourne lights for the past few weeks. However, when you live nearby, family and daily life
obligations can get in the way. My DS was home sick (he's OK) so I did not need to be available to pick him
up after wrestling practice (6 PM) --- I decided on the spur of the moment to go I drove my daughter home at 2:30. Neither of them are very excited about visiting the parks
anymore, so I made sure they were fed and off I went. While I drove, I decided on a plan of what to do.
First stop was the GF wedding chapel. I parked in the lot and went to see what decorations they had. It is really a beautiful place and I always enjoy
it, but other than a couple of poinsettias out front, nothing in the way of holiday decorations.
From there I walked the short path over to the Poly. I browsed their shops and checked out the decorations. Nice, but not impressive. They did have
a decorate a gingerbread house in the kids area, but no kids.
I took the monorail over to the MK. The park lots great and I was glad to see the decorations. I wasn't here to ride anything, but I found the park to
be pretty busy and the lines in the stores and the bakery where ridiculous. Definitely, not enough CM's. Many people where dressed in Christmas sweaters,
hats, etc. --and there were many excited kids (of all ages) heading to MVMCP. The Santa photo spot was a big hit. I had some of the hot chocolate (or
dark colored hot water) and cinnamon roll (large roll with little flavor - I love cinnamon rolls but threw most of this away)
From there I took a bus to the Boardwalk. The whole resort area is beautifully decorated, very nicely done. Christmas/Holiday tunes playing too!
Lots of folks taking pictures inside the lobby area. I went outside and walked around the boardwalk over to the Swan. The boardwalk outside is less
decorated, but still nice.
The Swan is nicely decorated inside and out. I waited there for a boat over to MGM. LONG 30 minute wait (CM said they were short a boat tonight) Could have
walked -- but I was sure as soon as I started walking the boat would come)
MGM was not crowded at all. The tree in front and the decorations as you enter were really pretty and festive. I headed to NY street to see the
Spectacle of Lights. WOW! They were breathtaking -- with the music and the snow falling (and the first cold night here) it was just what I needed to get in the
spirit. I took some pictures of couples for them and strolled around. Inside the lights area they sell Hot Chocolate in a souvenir mug for ten
dollars. No thanks! Not many were buying them! I stopped at Writers Shop (next to SciFi) and got the most delicious white chocolate cocoa I have ever had. (Had
to be a zillion calories, it was that good! The cookie was good too!
From there, I took the bus to the GF. Outside is minimally decorated, but inside! WOW -- this is my favorite resort to stay at and everything here has always been
top notch. You really get what you pay for here and it shows. Many tress, including the very large one that goes up nearly to the ceiling (about 4
stories high maybe?) An enormous gingerbread house, garland and flowers and decorations everywhere ... sounded like live holiday music playing too. The
scent of the flesh tropical flowers was heavenly! If you have the chance, it is worth visiting! I walked over to the Wedding lot and drove over to PI.
PI was barely decorated. I wanted to take advantage of an offer for PI annual members to get an extra 3 months added on if they stopped by the ticket
booth before Jan. 1. There was no line, --too cold out maybe high 40's -low 50's -- but fine for me to be in just a sweater.)
Pixie dust my way -- my DS had a later expiration date than dd and I so the CM offered to make all of ours the same later date. We have FL resident
premium passes and PI annuals, but the PI's expiring later will be great as the kids only really like going to Comedy Warehouse now hat we live here. I took
in a Comedy Warehouse show. Very small crowd tonight. The CW is nicely decorated inside, the cast wore Santa hats and incorporated holiday songs and
themes throughout the show. Really neat to see. It looked like DD was light up and decorated, but I was ready head to home. (And DD is hazardous to my wallet
for sure!)
It was a really nice visit and I was happy to get so much done. If I can, I want to get over to Epcot (CP) another day, maybe over the weekend.
