Acdrapgold - April 2005

Day One 04/21-04/22: Traveling, Check In, and DTD

Cast of Characters: Me (23) DH (26) DMiL (53) DFiL (53+) DSiL (35)

The original plan was to leave 04/22/05 at midnight and arrive sometime Friday afternoon, but that changed. Both of us worked on Thursday, but left early so we would have time to pick up the rental car. I hate flying and we didn't want to put the miles on my car, so we decided to rent an economy size car. We got the car and then went home to start loading it up. We finished everything by about 6:30pm and then tried to go to sleep. Well, at 7:30pm neither of us had fallen asleep, so DH suggested we just go. We drove for a few hours and then pulled over to get some rest. We ended up at ASMo at about 3:30pm. The actual drive time was about 12 ˝ hours (we were coming from WV, about an hour and half outside of DC).

We went to check and I joked with DH that I would tell them it was our anniversary (which it was) and our birthdays (which it wasn't) so we would get the room I wanted. Well, I didn't tell them any of that (I knew it would be wrong to lie just to get a room) but we did end up with a king size bed in Mighty Ducks (I wanted Toy Story.) We quickly found our room, which had a view of the pool. The room was adequate size for the two of us. DH didn't like it at first (I later found out he doesn't like the Mighty Ducks so that tainted his opinion.) We had a king size bed room which meant it was also handicap accessible. This meant that there was no real shower /tub (there was a curtain separating the "shower" from the toilet, but the whole bathroom floor was the shower floor) and the door slide shut instead of closing normal. None of this was a big deal, in fact I liked it better than a normal bathroom (which are very small.) The only problem was that I had to hold the shower head; there was not a way to make it stand by itself.

We rested for a few moments and then it was off to DTD! We drove to DTD and started off our shopping spree at the World of Disney. I collect snowglobes (as well as many other Disney related items) so I thought this would be the best place to start. Boy was I right! They had so much to choose from, it was overload. I did choose several items, and then it was off to more stores. We went from store to store just browsing, and doing a little more shopping. I was even able to find an ornament set I saw last year in MK but didn't get.

We started to get hungry, and decided on Rainforest Café. When we got there, the wait was very long (even with our Safari Club membership) so we decided to go back to the hotel. DH wanted pizza, and we were going to have it delivered until he found out there was an 18% gratuity and $1.00 delivery charge, so he decided we should just go get it ourselves. We got the pizza and went back to the room. We ate and I got everything ready for the next day at Animal Kingdom!

Best Thing: Actually being at Disney!!

Worst Things: DH wasn't thrilled with the resort.
